INTRODUCTION: During this season of Lent, we will be focusing on the positive or active aspect of the koine Greek word “metanoia” that has traditionally be translated into English as “penitence” or “repentance”. Those translations lead us to understand metanoia in terms of regret…and the possibility of “paying a price” for our past sins.
But there is a deeper and just as important meaning in metanoia that can be translated as “commitment”. It is important that we not only regret and turn away from our sin behavior, but to enter into new live that aligns with Jesus’ teaching and in possible by the power of the Holy Spirit. In Christ we are called to die to our old life of sin bondage and be reborn from above into new life. Seeking a new life that hungers and thirsts for righteousness is what we commit to in this Lenten season!
“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?” ~ Luke 6:46
