Devotionals for Lent
For this series of Lenten devotionals, we will return to sit at the feet of our Lord to seek and hear his revealed truth. Before we start though, it is important to understand what the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) is…and is not. For the believer, Jesus shows us what authentic discipleship looks like. This is revealed, not pursued. For the non-believer, there is nothing in these three chapters that will ever serve as a guide to righteousness, a path to earn God’s approval, or a series of steps to achieve salvation.
There is only God’s grace revealed in the transformed lives of those who follow the way, the truth, and the life, of Jesus Christ. So, please – during these forty days of devotional readings, never seek to “become” what Jesus teaches, but rather turn from our old life that embraces sin and trust the Holy Spirit to align our thoughts, our desires, our words, and our actions with the will of God. Let us bear the fruit of repentance and walk this path towards Easter following the light of the world, Jesus the Christ.
“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?” ~ Luke 6:46
