March 17 Day 10
Psalm 42:2
“My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?”
REFLECTION
This is one of the most sublime elements of faith in Christ: while other faiths call on people to seek out their god(s), the way of Jesus reveals a God that seeks, finds, and relates to us as “once lost, but now found”. There is a reason why Christianity is full of language like election, redemption, salvation, and incarnation – these terms reflect God’s desire to restore us to a right relationship with God and with others. There is nothing in our power to move us towards God, but rather God comes looking for us like lost lambs.
“Where can I go and meet with God?” Go to the door! Jesus awaits and indeed has been knocking. All that is required is to turn from our idols and self-obsession and hear the Lord tapping incessantly on our hearts, seeking entrance. But to invite Jesus in…to let him abide in us…we too must abide in him. This is a commitment to new life in which the Lord is welcome, rules in fact, over every element of our lives. Nothing withheld and with no hopeless effort to conceal.
PRAYER: You have drawn close to us, Lord. Your kingdom is at hand and all we have to do is accept your invitation and answer your call. By the power of your Holy Spirit, open our ears to hear your voice drawing us. Open our eyes to see the way revealed by your light. And draw us irresistibly to the small gate where you stand, waiting. AMEN
