March 25 Day 17
Psalm 33:20-22
“We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May your unfailing love be with us, Lord, even as we put our hope in you.”
REFLECTION
Hope without confidence is no more than a wish. Living without hope is bereft of meaning and purpose. The living hope of the gospel is a confident expectation of things to come. The hope of the Christian is based on God’s will being done and all things working according to that will. That is why our “long-suffering” is not just patience, but a willingness to endure to end because our hope is alive; we trust in the outcome of God’s providence and not in our desires.
How hard is it to place our entire trust in God alone? Is our trust in Jesus as both Savior and Lord complete and wholehearted? We must confess that our hope is divided, scattered in varying degrees in our wealth, our worldly relationships, our circumstances, our political system, our community standing, and much more. But those hopes are all circumstantial and liable to failure. It is only when we base our entire trust on the resurrection hope of Jesus Christ that we can experience a true confidence and glorious expectation.
PRAYER: Our world is full of idols and idolatrous expectations – all calling to us with false hopes and impractical expectations. The allure is real! The promises seem reasonable based on the masses gathered to worship them. But we know that we are foreigners, passing through this world and that material things hold no real hope. Help us to rejoice, committing our full trust to the Lord, in whose name we wait. AMEN
