March 29 Day 21
Psalm 130:5-6
“I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope. I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning.”
REFLECTION
Hope, anticipation, and trust – these are the elements of waiting for the faithful. We are not passively wandering through life like sleepwalkers. Those whom Jesus calls friend set their thoughts, their words, and their actions on an expectation that God sovereign will is being done, visibly and invisibly, every moment of every day.
When we commit to following Jesus as a disciple we set aside our old, worldly hopes and find a living hope that is eternal. We anticipate a future where earth is like heaven and God’s kingdom is our reality. And we trust that God’s revealed word, embodied in God’s own Son, is the way, the truth, and the life. We wait as we pass through this world on the way home: vigilant, constant, and faithful to our duty as Christians.
PRAYER: Lord, help us to wait on you and for you, even as we live the life you have blessed us with, full of your Spirit and as loyal subjects of your kingdom. Fill us with patient trust in your providence that keeps us at peace during every storm and in the midst of any grief. AMEN
