April 8 Day 29
Luke 1
“Now there were some present at that time who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. Jesus answered, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way? I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.”
REFLECTION
In our reflection on commitment to the way of Jesus Christ we are challenged to examine our consistency, constancy, and resilience are believers. Our standard by which we should measure is God’s own permanence and perfect will. Our Creator’s judgement will come to us all, at the resurrection or the Son’s return. That judgement is both just and universal: nobody will escape it.
The good news is that repentance is available to all who Christ calls…and that repentance, offered in true faith, saves us from destruction at the end of all things. God is the single constant in the universe God created; we are called to a life committed to Jesus as both Savior and Lord. If we only acknowledge God and pay lip-service to his commandments we are no more sinners than the believers – but do risk condemnation in eternity.
PRAYER: Lord, your judgement is just and our desire is to be found innocent through the sacrificial death of Jesus. Let us lay down our own lives committed to sin and death and take up the Cross of Christ and place our whole trust in the resurrection of the faithful, in this life and in eternity. AMEN
