April 9 Day 30
Ezekiel 18:21
“But if a wicked person turns away from all the sins they have committed and keeps all my decrees and does what is just and right, that person will surely live; they will not die.”
REFLECTION
To have life and have it abundantly – this must be the desire of our hearts before we are able to “turn away from all the sins we have committed” and seek new life from above. It does not matter how wicked or how lost we once were, when Jesus calls us, he stands ready to guide us out of our guilt and remorse and into peace and joy. We are not capable of making a decision to stop sinning, but the way of Jesus makes if possible to leave sin behind and be sanctified into new life.
Death is the wage of sin. From the small griefs and humiliations of unjust and unkind relations with others to the ultimate destruction of hell due to our failure to accept Christ’s call to follow him…death is the sum of all our sin. If we want to live…truly live, we must accept Jesus’ atoning death on the Cross as his disciples accepted his foot-washing. We cannot serve two masters; we serve sin by refusing to repent or we serve God by following his pattern for true life revealed in his commandments and the life of his Son.
PRAYER: Lord, we are not content to be living today but seek more from you – it is our heart’s desire to have life more abundantly! And we believe that true life can only be experienced through faith in the way of Jesus Christ. Give us that life! Break our hearts and reshape them into living vessels for your Son, our Savior. Write your law on hearts and fill us with a passion for worship and service guided by your Hoy Spirit. AMEN
