April 10 Day 31
John 17:17
“Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.”
REFLECTION
When Jesus calls us, he offers us both salvation and justification. Those are achieved simultaneously by the grace of God. The process of sanctification, however, is the work of a lifetime. As disciples of Jesus, just as the original disciples Jesus called, we are all “works in progress” and subject to the work of God’s Spirit of regeneration and spiritual growth. We commit our lives not only to being saved and justified…but to the ongoing miracle of sanctification as we grow daily to live lives more closely aligned to that of Jesus.
The truth that shapes the meaning and purpose of our new life from above is God’s word – as revealed in scripture and in his living Word, his only Son, our Savior. God’s truth is not subjective nor malleable. Nor is it measurable by our reasoning minds or the scientific method. The truth that works the miracle of sanctification is the spiritual truth that can be apprehended by faith alone.
PRAYER: Lord, we are not spiritually content to know salvation and the forgiveness of our sins. We long to leave the broad highway that leads to destruction and begin walking the narrow path that Jesus walked and which our Savior awaits to guide us along. For we know that the difficult way leads to your kingdom. Use your Spirit to mold us into more Christlike character daily, that we may be ready to enter your kingdom as holy citizens. AMEN
