March 12 Day 6
John 16:33
“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
REFLECTION
During this series of Lenten devotions, we are focusing on the commitment to Christ that only metanoia, in the fullest sense of the word, can produce. The prospect of confronting our own brokenness and sin is daunting – but is also necessary for most of us to truly repent. It is only when see our lives, our dreams and desires, as dust and ashes, that we are able to accept Jesus as Lord. “You may never know that Jesus is all you need, until Jesus is all you have.” (Corrie Ten Boom).
But repentance of regret, return, and commitment is what brings us through the forty days to stand on Easter morning at sunrise and behold the empty tomb with new faith! When we experience Christ risen we are given a glimpse of kingdom of heaven, where we will find peace. The resurrected Lord has truly overcome the world and invites us to leave the tribulations of this world behind and enter into his peace, which is beyond all human understanding.
PRAYER: Lord, you watch us trudge through this life with our eyes distracted and our hearts troubled. You call us to your kingdom, but we find the path narrow and the gate small, that allows us entrance; you warn us that few will find it. Give us pure hearts with a real commitment to the way, the truth, and the life of Jesus Christ. And then bless us with your peace that our days on this earth are holy and our being reflects your will to those who are still lost. AMEN
