Matthew 5:14-16
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
REFLECTION
As we reflected yesterday: to be salt and light is not a call to performance or aspiration to become…but a statement of our being in Christ. As disciples of Jesus our every thought, word, and deed, are judged by the world and in today’s reading, the light that shines in our life is a witness to the glory of God. We don’t seek to become the light – the quality of our light reveals our faith.
We do not need to hide in the dark! While our lives remain broken and imperfect, our trust and hope is in the Lord, who makes us righteous in his presence and forgives our sin. For that reason, the light of God’s brilliant holiness can pour out from our poor clay lamps and make visible our healed souls, our wholeness in Christ, and the love of our Creator, so that the lost can be drawn into that light!
PRAYER: Lord, we know our vessel is broken and leaky. But you make us whole and holy, filling us with the oil of your Spirit. Purify the contents of our hearts so that your flame burns brightly before the world. Let your reflected glory fill our days so that all can see that we are in this world…but not of it. AMEN
